Okay, so here’s the fine print:

The Norman Smile Center Dental Membership Plan is not dental insurance, it is a dental health membership. The membership plan is not transferable to other dental offices or any other patient. It is only available to patients who do not have existing dental insurance. Membership runs for 365 days from the date of purchase. If periodontal disease or gingivitis is present, additional treatment; not covered under the plan will be necessary before your cleaning. A periodontal maintenance plan may be available to those who qualify. No refunds will be provided for dues paid or unused services, including failure to schedule and maintain appointments. Please notify our office at least 48 hours in advance if you must change a scheduled appointment. Fees for dental services may change at any time.

Limited or lack of access to quality dental care is a real problem for millions of people, with nearly 1 in 3 Americans faced with no way to afford the services they need. Without dental coverage, people are less likely to visit the dentist, take their children to the dentist, or seek or accept the preventative treatments necessary for good oral health.

Dental Health Membership Plans like those offered at Norman Smile Center are subscription-based models designed to reduce the costs of dental care and improve oral health outcomes by cutting out insurance companies and other third-party middlemen. By breaking down the financial barriers to receiving treatment, dental health membership plans give uninsured patients access to comprehensive, high-quality dental care services at an affordable price and insured patients extra peace of mind that getting the treatments they need won’t break the bank.

How Dental Health Membership Plans Work

Dental Health Membership Plans are a convenient and cost-effective way to get all of the dental care you and your family need when you need it, without wait times, surprise fees, and billing runarounds.

Here’s how the Dental Health Membership Plan from Norman Smile Center works:

  1. Our friendly front office helps you determine the right plan for you and your family based on your needs. We offer plans for adults and children, as well as Periodontal Maintenance Plans for patients with or at risk for periodontal disease.
  2. You pay one affordable annual membership fee upfront.
  3. You can schedule appointments directly with us whenever you need them—no waiting periods.
  4. You receive a host of preventive and comprehensive care benefits, such as exams, cleanings, and unlimited digital x-rays; 1 free emergency exam per period; and a 15% discount on all dental care services, including our Opalescence Whitening Go Trays.
  5. At your appointment, you simply pay out-of-pocket for discounted services, directly to Norman Smile Center. No premiums, copays, or deductibles, and no reimbursement claims or complicated paperwork.

Because Norman Smile Center’s Dental Health Membership Plans are separate from and independent of the traditional dental health insurance model, we can offer more competitive pricing for our services as well as discounts on many of our treatments. This allows you to pay less for the high-quality, comprehensive dental care you need and deserve.

The Costs of Dental Care

Without insurance, dental care for adults can be very expensive. Routine services can cost several hundred dollars, while more intensive treatments can be in the thousands. However, for many people, the premiums, deductibles, and copays associated with insurance are simply too high and take too much out of their monthly paychecks, so they forgo the insurance plan and take their chances.

The problem with this is that it’s the preventative care, routine checkups, and restorative treatments that help keep small oral health concerns from turning into bigger ones. By avoiding important things like cleanings, exams, and fillings because you can’t afford them now, you run the risk of developing more serious conditions down the road that will be exponentially more expensive to fix.

Dental Health Memberships offer another option. While they are not a one-for-one replacement for traditional dental insurance, they can be a viable alternative for people who cannot afford a traditional dental plan or a supplement to plans with annual benefit limits and wait periods. By making dental care more affordable and accessible, dental health memberships like those at Norman Smile Center can help improve oral and overall health outcomes for the people who need it most.

FAQs

Is a dental health membership plan right for me?

A dental health membership plan is great for patients who:

  • Are 65 years or older. Medicare doesn’t cover most dental treatments and care, so if you are 65 or older and have Medicare but no dental insurance, a dental membership can help you afford the important dental services you need.
  • Have a generally healthy mouth and need very little dental work beyond routine cleanings twice a year.
  • Need more dental work than a traditional insurance plan will cover. Most dental insurance plans have annual caps on how much they will pay for services in a year, so if you need dental treatments that exceed your annual limit, using a dental membership plan in conjunction with your insurance can help you cover those extra costs.
  • Have health issues that can be complicated or worsened by dental problems. Chronic health conditions like diabetes and heart disease are closely linked to oral concerns like gum disease, and they can exacerbate each other. If you don’t have dental insurance, a dental membership plan is better than nothing to help you protect your oral and overall health.
  • Are self-employed or work in a job that does not offer benefits or employer-sponsored dental care
  • Are retiring and will soon lose their dental benefits.

Norman Smile Center’s Dental Health Membership Plan is also a great alternative to employer-provided insurance that does not cover much or is too expensive. Instead of paying an expensive membership or paying for insurance that doesn’t cover what you need, you can use the membership plan instead to cover your dental care.

How is Norman Smile Center’s Dental Health Membership Plan different from traditional dental insurance?

The Dental Health Membership Plans at Norman Smile Center cannot be used with other dental insurance benefits, but they are structured to provide valuable savings as stand-alone payment options.

Here are the major differences between Norman Smile Center’s Dental Health Membership Plans and traditional dental insurance.

With traditional dental insurance:

  • Preventative treatments like cleanings and exams are usually 100% covered, with other services (like fillings, root canals, and crowns) partially covered (usually between 20% and 50%).
  • However, traditional dental plans have annual benefits caps on how much they will pay for in a year, and there are usually additional fees like copays or premiums that you have to pay that can range from around $20 for an individual to nearly $150 for a family, all of which must go through the insurance company and not directly to your dentist.

With Norman Smile Center’s Dental Health Membership Plans:

  • Your one time payment includes 2 cleanings, 2 exams, unlimited x rays, 2 TMJ and 2 oral cancer screenings. In addition you will receive 1 free emergency exam and a 15% discount on all other services. There are no copays, premiums, deductibles, or annual coverage limits on care, and you can start scheduling right away—no waiting periods!

Can I have both traditional dental insurance and a dental membership plan?

You cannot have both traditional dental insurance and a dental membership plan, and you must choose one or other. Have questions on how to get the most of your dental insurance? Here is some guidance on using your end-of-year dental benefits and maximizing your coverage.
